My Bio
My Name is Bertha:
Author Fran Lewis
Illustrated by: Jamie Miller

Hi to my young readers from Fran Lewis the author of My Name is Bertha and now Bertha Speaks Out. Before writing these short stories I was a New York City Teacher for over 30 years. I taught grades one through six and later as well as becoming the Reading and Writing Staff Developer for my school. Teaching children to read is really very rewarding and introducing them to writing and creating their own stories was exciting for the students and me as well.
Growing up can be really difficult when you are over weight or not really good at sports or dancing. I hope you will learn by reading my stories that you can be anything that you want to be and no one can stop you from reaching your goals and dreams. Not everyone is born athletic, beautiful, thin and a genius. But, every one of you is smart or excellent in something whether it is drawing, jump rope or even running track, it does not matter. Who you are makes you special. I hope that you enjoy reading about Bertha and Tillie and learn that there is a little bit of Bertha in everyone.
Love, Bertha and Fran Lewis

Little Known Facts About Me
I was played the piano and violin as a kid. I always got A's in school and I hate to dance and I am a total klutz when it comes to bowling and doing sports activiities. I have always had a weight problem but not any more. I lost over 65 pounds and I love to teach children reading and writing.
Additional Information
I want to get my third book published by a tradtional publisher and I hope to get an agent to help me. I just spoke at a school in Yonkers about writing and being an author to a fifth grade class and I really had fun. The PTA wants me to come back and speak to the entire student body. I have submitted my third book to a publisher and I hope they will accept it. I am looking to publish some short stories too.

Sally's Book Joy in a box

Sally Hanan is a member of Red River Writers a group that I joined on facebook. She is an inner healing minister and loves writing. For those that have not read Joy in a Box you can read it online on smashwords.com. It is an ebook that I reviewed but printed out in order to be able to give it the respect it deserved. It is a compilation of 29 short stories dealing with different aspects of God and having faith and trust in him. It is really an inspiring and inspirational book. To read and learn… Continue

Joy In A Box: By Sally Hanan

Joy In A Box: By Sally Hanan

1. What was the reasoning behind the title “Joy in a Box,” and how does the title of your book intertwine all of the stories within the collection?

I’ve noticed that most writers choose the title of one of their stories to represent the whole collection, and I couldn’t use “The Collection,” as that would definitely have been a bit boring. I chose “ Joy in a Box” because most of the stories are inspiring and speak comfort and hope into difficult situations.

2. In… Continue

Third book is almost done

My niece, Jamie Miller has completed the cover for my third book Bertha Fights Back. It is the third one in the Bertha series and I personally think it is my best work. It brings Bertha into Middle School where she has to make some hard and fast choices about which crowd of friends to stay with and which she should not associate with. After being wrongly accused of doing something in school by her friends and the Principal of the school she is determined not to be anyone's scapegoat any more and… Continue
