'New York Times' wins 5 Pulitzers; one for Spitzer story

Newspaper journalism may be radically changing, but the 2009 Pulitzer Prizes announced Monday confirmed time-honored traditions: Big newspapers usually dominate (The New York Times this year), sex scandals still sell, and good watchdog journalism takes the prize.

Destroying Lives

In this post I want to talk to you about stigma and discrimination. These are just words, but they carry the power to destroy lives.

Stigma is a negative attitude toward any given characteristic of a person. This is often a broad and community issue fueled by discriminatory behavior of even a few and belief in untruths about those characteristics. Stigma is considered to be a negative portion of discrimination.

Discrimination is the treatment or consideration of a group by way of class or cate… Continue

Happy Fourth

Just wanted to say happy Fourth of July to everyone. Remember that it was the sacrifices of all those men and women over two hundred years ago that allow you to express your ideas through writings and books today. It was a small pamphlet called, "Common Sense", that gave the spark to our revolution. Thank a soldier, fly a flag and be proud of it. It is the power of the writers of the world that have shaped it into what it is. We are the ones that have given birth to nations, brought enemies toge… Continue

Brews the Cauldron

Your heart of dereliction
Intrudes upon my stately soul –
Tormenting, whipping, writhing
As it befuddles even your speak –

Your callous mind horrifies
The waters of sanity –

Your musty veil –

Your cauldron of spit
Echoes the dryness –
Of your spattered soul
As you lifelessly dredge –

Your horrifying tongue
Whips its senselessness –
Kneading, prodding, solidifying
An endless vacuum of misery –

Your demise has slumbered
Far within my very depth –
As your heart of derelictio… Continue

A Sense of Mounting Excitement

The prospect of the paperback release of 'Legacy of the Ripper', the sequel to 'A Study in Red' came a step closer yesterday, when my publisher contacted me to inform me that the files had been sent to the printers, and that all we have to do now is wait, and keep an eye on Amazon on a daily basis as the book will appear as soon as the printers can get it out and on to the Amazon database. I just love the cover that Deron Douglas at Double Dragon Publishing has produced for the book and can't wa… Continue
